maybe if the black community read more there would be more books with black main characters.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! UM. That’s incredibly racist.
“maybe if the black community read more there would be more books with black main characters.”
I’m black and I read A LOT. You’re disgusting with your generalization and the black community reading more has absolutely NOTHING to do with how many black characters are featured in books and films. It’s overrun with white people who make stories about other white people. What the hell is wrong with you? Who are you to think you can speak for a whole community?
There’s not enough gifs for this.
obviously you have never been to memphis, atlanta, LA, or any other poor area or city
black people who live in those areas generally speaking do not read books, and while they are not the best representation, they hold a majority on the american negro population
I have no beef with people who have dark skin. I am just saying, the majority of the black community in this country does not pleasure read, and not because books are not available, but rather because it is not something that interests them.
#unpopular but realistic statements
Hahah um having access to books is not what this is about and please don’t assume that I haven’t been to those any of those places or LIVED in a place like that thank you very much.
Sitting in a library or bookstore for hours on end doesn’t cost anything. And the representation of characters of color has NOTHING to do with how much a certain community reads, get that straight. Trying to hide racism behind “logic” doesn’t work.
I, actually, said the opposite in my statement. I said that it’s not about whether or not people have access to the books because you’re right. You can just go to a library. I said that the black community tends not to read much because it’s not something that most people living in poor areas are interested in. Furthermore my argument is that people do not write books with black main characters for black kids because they do not feel like there will be marketability for those characters. companies publish books with characters that they feel will be easy to relate to for the intended audience. Most people would not have been able to relate to harry potter if he had been ‘straight gangsta from peckham london’. at best, the book would have ended up a controversial novelty.
First off: racism, by nature, cannot come from critical thought, it comes from the avoidance of critical thought. It’s easier to paint with broad strokes. Stop trying to validate it.
Second: I think he might have misinterpreted the script. The writers may have been making a joke that the actor didn’t understand.
“Which one?”
“Exactly.”
I’d imagine this as a tongue in cheek attack on tokenism.
Just a thought.
